Be still.
That’s what I feel like I hear the Lord saying to me when I cry out to Him.
Why?
Why so long?
Why so hard?
Why such pain?
What do we do?
How do we survive?
Please give us wisdom Lord for all the things.
Being still is NOT my specialty! I think I almost feel like being still is a sign of laziness. And I do not want to be known as a lazy person. Keep moving, keep cleaning, doing laundry, making dinner, preparing schedules, messaging clients, gardening, writing articles, paying bills, washing dishes, visiting family, volunteering, teaching school, attending kid activities, visiting with friends… there’s no time to be still!
Some people in my household have no problem being still and it drives me nuts! I know it seems like nagging, but the second someone sits down and the dishes aren’t done or beds haven’t been made or rooms cleaned…I must let them know! I just don’t like stillness…
I don’t know who’s right or wrong. Perhaps we should be somewhere in between, but I’m definitely on the struggle bus with those two words – Be still. If I am still, how do all the things get done? What exactly does “be still” mean, anyway?
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
Psalm 46:10 ESV
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
over the man who carries out evil devices!”
Psalm 37:7 ESV
I think this means to not fret about all the things, but rather relax. And the Lord will take care of it all. This is hard for me to comprehend because, again, I feel lazy if I’m not doing. But…I am going to try to focus on the Lord and not on my circumstances.

and all these things will be added to you.”

I think I post this verse a lot. But it’s because I need to remember it a lot! I think I have to try my hardest to accomplish all the things. However, if the Lord isn’t in my busyness, then it’s a waste.
“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.”
Psalm 127:1 ESV
“Commit your work to the Lord,
and your plans will be established.”
