DATE NIGHT FUN ◽ MARRIAGE
It’s July, and the 4th is always a fun time to dress in red, white and blue, light the sparklers with the kids, stay up to see the fireworks…and enjoy all the fun colorful snacks in the colors of red, white and blue…if you celebrate America.
“Above the fruited plain” is part of the lyrics in the song “America the Beautiful.” Supposedly, the writer of these lyrics was standing atop Pikes Peak and viewing the lush agricultural lands below when she penned this poem.
So, why not enjoy the lush fruit that’s available in the summer, in the way of date night out?
Pineapples – Oh my goodness, there are pineapple drinks, pineapple upside down cakes, grilled pineapples, and even cute pineapple cups and plates to be found at the Dollar Tree. So why not enjoy dinner with another couple at home, with pineapple inspired cuisine? Do the searching together and make it simple, cute and fun.
Blueberries – I think of pancakes when I think of blueberries. Plan a morning when you can get up and make these together, set out a tray and fill it with syrup and butter. Pour cups of orange juice, and head out to the patio to enjoy while the birds are singing, first thing in the morning. Even play some morning coffee shop music while you eat slowly and talk about the weekend ahead.

Strawberries – Make it a farmers market date where you buy 2 cartons of strawberries. Wear red for this outing. It can be red flip-flops or a red tee…you pick it. Find a park with a faucet nearby and rinse your strawberries well (take a small colander with you). With water bottles in hand, stay in the park and linger while you eat nothing but simple red strawberries. Swing. Take a walk. This can be done early morning or late evening. Head home and plan a strawberry shake night next week, with your second carton of this pretty red fruit.
Blackberries – This is my favorite fruit, I think. Have you had blackberry cobbler, lately? If you have it available in a restaurant near you, plan your date there! If not, plan your date at home to make a cobbler together…with ice cream. See if you can find the movie Blackberry on Netflix (it’s rated R for language) and watch that while you enjoy your treat.
Peaches – We have peach stands all along our roads in the summer, here in Texas. And of course, peach cobbler is a staple summer dessert. But there are so many things one can enjoy about peaches! I personally love peach salsa. Search the web. There are so many options. Buy the ingredients and make the salsa, and buy the chips. Sit outside in your driveway on your lawn chairs as the sun sets and enjoy both together. Count the stars…if you can. Give thanks.
