HOMESTEADING * HOME

We finally did it! We had a huge gathering in our home!

We had waited so long to invite a large group over due to feeling like our new house was “unfinished.” When Brian lost his job, we literally put a huge stop to all the things we had wanted to get for our home. We were beyond grateful to finally be in a house, but a bit discouraged that we could not do the decorating we would like to have done. “One day,” we’d say.

And then…we just went ahead and did it! We had over 100 guests come through for Asher’s graduation/birthday celebration! I have no idea how we fit or fed everyone, but the Lord provided! Literally, He provided the loaves and fishes. I do not know how to cook for that many people and yet somehow we had leftovers!

I’m so thankful that I had started working for a friend who handles events, and we had done a wedding the day before. She sent me home with all the leftovers so I could use them for the party. That was so helpful! With half the guests being teenagers, they were flying through the food!

She had also sent me with the leftover teas and random mini desserts! My mother-in-law had even made a regular and gluten free cake and all that was gone so fast. But the kids were happy and fed. Thank you, Lord!

I was also beyond thankful that the weather held up, too! I was so worried it was going to be pouring rain that day and imagining what a mess that was going to be! But no rain fell. The kids could be outside or in the garage. We set up all our camping chairs and the kids played games out there and ate. It truly worked out great!

I was so overwhelmed with “the way things looked,” but gave it up and was thankful we had a home to host in! Never mind the wires hanging out of the windows because of the “one day” when we’ll get those shades put in! And don’t even look at our free art work, couch and rug! One day we’ll have something we picked out. Don’t judge my Goodwill outdoor table with my Amazon wicker chairs that are falling apart!  However, I am so thankful for the gifts we were given and they were such a need at the time!

Many guests messaged me afterwards and said how much fun they had getting to see everyone and visit with one another. My heart was happy that the Lord provided, even when I felt insufficient. When I am weak, He is strong. I felt like I could not host, could not feed the people, could not do this or that, but with Him all things are possible!

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you,

for my power is made perfect in weakness.’

Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses,

so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV
