HOMESTEADING â—½ HOME
Well, we are going on month four without closing out this construction loan! That means we’ve been paying interest only for four EXTRA months? My head is going to pop! We are literally at the mercy of the bank to decide when they want to move forward. So, sadly, I must say I have lost my hope in our banking system. Not that I ever truly trusted it, but I thought maybe they were into helping their clients out. That is not the case. I’ve learned the longer they drag their feet the more money they make! I’ve also learned we can shop around! Unfortunately, it took us too long to realize that we could interview other banks! And also unfortunately, we do have to resend over all our information. However, it may be worth it in the long run!
We found a bank that will save us thousands in closing costs, which is super helpful! However we’re still waiting on them to get back with us on a few things. While no bank or person is perfect, it’s important to know we can shop around and make sure the bank we choose is a right fit for us.

Why don’t they teach these things in school?! Like Buying a House 101 or Building 101, because both are two very different processes! Building was the easy part for us. Turning the construction loan into a mortgage has been a complete nightmare!
We’ve had to remind ourselves that this is all in God’s hands and He knew this would happen before we did. I’m praying that interest rates will continue to drop before we lock in! Maybe that’s why the long wait? Who knows!
We have no consistent job yet, for my husband Brian. Praise the Lord, though. Brian is still receiving a severance package and has been getting random side jobs. We are praying so hard for something more steady! Without that steady job, we have definitely still put a hold on furniture buying. We have been blessed by some sweet friends with beds, chairs, rugs, and decor. These kindnesses have definitely helped our home actually feel like a home!
We are continually hosting a bible study youth group in our home, and luckily these kiddos just don’t care much about where they sit! So when we meet, we have 30-plus people sitting on camping chairs all over our home! We are so thankful we have space now to provide that!
God is good and we will continue to thank Him and look at what He has brought us through…and we are rejoicing as if the battle has already been won! (Because it has…)
Still trying to become a homesteader…
