A NIGHT TO REMEMBER â—½ HOME
HOME - june 2025 - a night.jpg

It’s so fun to teach our kids some healthy habits when it comes to their skin.  Of course, we brush their teeth. But we also teach them to wash their bodies, and their faces, daily.  And we have our own routines of cleansing our faces, with the products we use.  This month it will be fun to create a face scrub with the kiddos, wash everyone’s faces, and talk about the way the Lord cleans us up, as well, with his great love.

Preparation:  You’ll need brown sugar and honey! Combine 1 T of brown sugar with 1 T of honey in little bowls, one for each person (you could have the older kids make this ahead of time.)  Small washcloths, damp and dry ones, would be great to have available.

I John 1:7

…the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.

Sin is doing wrong, things we know that are disobedient or hurtful to others.  When we disobey, all we have to do is come to Jesus and ask him to forgive us, and he cleans us from that sin.

Let’s look at our face scrub.  Take a sniff and see if you can tell what the two ingredients are! (let them guess)

Psalm 51:7 is a prayer to God

…wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.

Snow is so white it’s almost blinding, isn’t it!  When Jesus cleans our hearts from sin, all impurities (bad stuff) are removed and we are clean like snow.

Let’s take our hands and get some of our scrub and wash our faces.  The sugar exfoliates.  Anyone know what that means? (It sluffs off the old skin). That’s what Jesus’ blood does for us, it cleans away all the grime and junk from the world and makes us clean.

Let the kids enjoy the scrub as they wash their faces. Hand each person a dry towel.

Psalm 51:10 is another prayer

…create in me a clean heart, Oh God.

Why do we need clean faces and hearts?  (Clean faces keep our skin healthy and free of bacteria, same with our hearts because sin and bad attitudes can creep in, just like dirt on our faces.)

How did that facial scrub feel? (Let them answer).  What would happen if we never washed our faces (dirt, grime, infection, smells…)

Our hearts grow bitter and mean if we don’t ask for a daily cleanse from Jesus as his love and mercy washes over us and makes us clean, every single time we ask.

Let each person describe the face wash, how they felt before and after, if they like to wash their face or not, and why it’s a necessary daily activity.

Family Prayer:

Jesus thank you that you love us so much and gave yourself to die for our sins, so that we can have clean hearts, white as snow. Forgive us for bad attitudes and sin in our hearts.  Scrub away all the impurities and keep us fresh, to be used of you to bless others.  Amen.
