HOMESTEADING * HOME
The wilderness.
I feel that’s what we’re going through again. From eight years in the trailer, feeling like the wilderness experience, to still not closing on the house, job loss, and continuous sickness… it’s been a rough go and I’m so ready to be on the other side of things. This past winter felt especially long and so have the trials. I’m sure it always feel longer when you’re going through it, but this one seems extra long. So many unknowns.
I’m a like to know now person! I always want to know what’s next. Like what we are doing at every moment. I even make lists in my head and goals for the day. It’s a little nuts. So this unknown territory is ROUGH! I’m sure I’m supposed to learn the lesson that the Lord is in the driver’s seat, not me, though the lesson is hard and I’m just not liking it! But who does? The definition of the word “lesson” is a period of time during which something is taught. (Dictionary.Cambridge.org) I would like this period of time to be done!

So much negative talk…now on to the positives!

We’re in a house! Praise the Lord! We are not in 325 square feet trailer, so definitely a win! I have a working oven, dishwasher and washer and dryer. It’s truly magical! Oddly, we figured out we don’t have enough dishes yet, so we still hand wash!

It’s funny, we’re probably just so used to doing that too, so it’s just natural for us. I have been cooking and baking daily just because I can It’s wonderful! I’m trying to figure out new meals. When cooking in a tiny space with a tiny oven I was very limited on meals. I was always used to cooking one thing and then I shut off the oven and that was it for a few hours, at least. Because I had to hand light the pilot and stick my hand into the oven. Then I wouldn’t want to do that again for a bit, it’s way too hot! Now I can have a casserole and cookies going at the same time! And turn the oven off, and after a few minutes later turn it back on. What is this craziness?
I have a real heater! No more going out in the middle of the night to switch the propane tank over because we ran out of fuel. And no more cold showers! No more loading the propane tanks up and driving almost an hour away to have them filled. I don’t miss any of that for sure! When it was super cold out, we’d bring the dogs inside of course. Can you imagine two giant, hairy 70 lb. Dogs in 325 sq. Feet? It was tight, stinky and hairy! Now they have a place to come into and spread out as well.
Our dogs are so funny. They love being outside but will come on the back porch and just stare at us through the glass door. We open the door for them to come in and they don’t want to. I think they find it odd that they can just come and watch us whenever they want. It’s all new to them, too.
Here’s hoping that our next issue is full of news that we are officially home owners, with a wonderful new job and furniture to sit on! That’s the prayer!
REMEMBER…
”But seek ye FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness
and all these things shall be added to you.”
