IN EACH ROOM ◽ HOME

It’s truly fall now, and soon the Christmas holidays will be here.  But until then there are such warm and cozy ways to make your shelves sing with all the hues of the season, just by adding little touches here and there.  So take a look around your house at your shelves, and here is some inspiration as you decorate:

Small pumpkins – Set a stack of books and place a pumpkin on top.  Easy and done!

Add a candle – Purchase a couple in fall hues like brown, orange or yellow or green…and place them where they can be lit and enjoyed on a shelf where they can burn safely.

A dish – Do you have a pretty decorate dish you only use in the fall?  Consider setting it out instead of keeping it hidden in a cabinet.  Find a shelf, turn it on its side or let it be a vessel for other things…and enjoy.

Fall stories – Use children’s books or other books you might have that have recipes or photos or a jacket cover in fall colors.  Arrange them on a shelf.

A Vase – It’s the time of year for fall flowers, and Trader Joe’s always has the best prices and the prettiest bouquets!  Grab one and keep it pretty in a vase all month long.  And use what you have for a vase!  If you don’t want fresh flowers, use some fall stems, including pumpkins!

Lanterns – These are everywhere, small and large.  If you have a shelf that will hold a cute lantern, go for it!  The light will add the perfect ambience.

Art – We recently took a trip to Vermont in the autumn and got a great snapshot of fall color.  Had it printed and framed.  Or you can order fall prints and do the same.  Set against the wall if the shelf is hanging there…

Wood – It’s the time of year to place your wooden items like bowls and boards out, on shelves, along with wooden fruit, like pears or apples – great décor pieces to add among others.

Black – If you have black candlesticks or stands, nestle them in on a shelf among other items of orange and fall hues for that October look…

Woodland – At Target they have little squirrels and I’ve seen foxes too, just small ones to set on a shelf near your other items, so the area looks nature-inspired!

Strings of lights – If you want, grab a little string of orange lights to lay along the edge of a shelf. Cute!

Wreath – If you have a bookcase with several shelves, you can hang a wreath in front of one of the shelves for the season!

Mugs – Do you have a coffee shelf?  Grab some seasonal mugs to place there, for using and for enjoying.

A Clock – Nothing is cuter than a fall clock (think wooden or green…) on a shelf that tells you the time and looks sublime…
