THYME BOOKSTORE ◽ TIPS

Knowing Jesus According to Mommy and Daddy is very dear to my heart.
The characters in it are modeled after my son’s family. And they are actually the models for the pictures. I wrote this book because of real feelings and real concerns in their family. We really don’t know what some people with certain special needs can comprehend about God and Jesus, but God’s Word explains to us that everyone has a way to know Him. God has made sure of this. But now explaining that to a concerned child is another story. That’s what this book does. It helps a child (in this case Holly, the little sister) be reassured that God has a way for everyone to know about Him. She is concerned about her big brother, Crush, which is the nickname he likes to be called, because he has autism.
Holly has been learning about Jesus but she's not sure if Crush will ever know Him. With help from Mommy and Daddy, and especially God Himself through His Word, Holly is reassured God is going to take care of everyone, including Crush.
This book uses the verse John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life," which was the first verse Crush memorized. Daddy also uses 1 Corinthians 3:6 to illustrate how God uses us to share about Him.
This story came about from real experiences within my son’s family that they were going through. My granddaughter had concerns about her brother being able to understand about God and Jesus, since his brain worked differently from hers. And I’m sure there are other families going through the same questions.
Knowing Jesus According to Mommy and Daddy helps us to see some of the challenges families face when they have a child with special needs. And it also helps us to understand and recognize what may seem like the smallest of victories but really is the biggest, when they do seem to comprehend. This book is the eighth in the series, Encouraging Scripture Books. It is also the third from the series, not written in poetry. It is in story form with the pictures created from photographs instead of hand drawn.
The first two are, The Nativity According to Mommy and The Cross According to Mommy. These two have my other son’s family as the models for the illustrations. I have to say it is more fun than I can express to have my grown boys, their wives, and my grandkids pose, however I ask, for my books. And they all did so well! Of course, afterwards, we had to go celebrate a job well done! This book is not just for families with members that have special needs. It tells of ways we can all help to share Jesus. So, it’s for everyone. Just like John 3:16 is for everyone.
