TRIED & TRUE ◽ TIPS
Last Month's Learning
by Marcy Lytle
TIPS - oct 2026 - tried and true - mag rack.jpeg

Here we go with another month of learnin’ from the past few weeks, just from observing and living.  I hope you enjoy and try some of the ideas!  The list is long this time!

I have an old maple wood magazine rack that was my mom’s and am using it to hold cookbooks and some dried flowers, right next to my desk. I love it!  So don’t throw out those old magazine racks…

Recently, a friend came over and had tortilla soup, and watched the movie by the same name, Tortilla Soup. It was a fun thing to do!

I have lots of reading glasses, and recently found this package, a little different, and in cool colors.  And guess what else?  I use 2.50 readers but driving at night had become a bit blurry.  Thinking I would finally need a prescription, I had my first ever eye exam.  Turns out, I only need a car pair of 1.5 for driving – It works!

Have you seen these new “sinks” for checkout at stores?  You just toss your items in, a sensor reads them all, and you pay.  Genius…. I saw this at Zara.

I cut a toasted bagel into bite-sized pieces, spread on peanut butter, and added a dark chocolate chip.  Drank orange juice and called it my breakfast.  Delish.

I recently bought this package of corn on the cob to pop in the microwave.  So fun.  It would be great for your fall gatherings…

The middle sister of the Bennett family (Jane Austen) was “plain,” she wore “spectacles” and wasn’t suited for the marrying kind… This is her story, I listened to on Audible, and it’s fantastic. The Other Bennett Sister.

My grandson inherited some of his Papa’s (my dad) golf clubs and caps.  Look how cute they look hanging on my grandson’s wall in his bedroom!

The Target Dollar Spot has the coolest items, sometimes.  I recently purchased this new oil bottle for my kitchen.  So darn cute…

I saw this in the theater, but I bet it’s out for streaming now.  You know those Spelling Bee movies where you get to know the competitors and you watch to see who wins?  Well, this is that kind of movie, only the competitors are girl scouts, selling their cookies.  It’s a good watch!  Loved it… Cookie Queens.

A picnic on the floor is perfect for fall.  Just lay out a long piece of paper or cloth or folded plastic tablecloth to use as a runner.  Decorate with paper placemats, stack up books and candles, provide each person their own food box.  Sit and enjoy…

Sixth Day Snacks.  Tasted their salsa at a festival, fell in love, and bought three jars!

Need fall art for your wall?  Pop Shelf might be an unlikely place to shop for it, but they have some cute seasonal wall art…and it’s so affordable.

My son bought one of these small processors in high school, stating we’d use it.  And 17 years later I am still using it.  Great for small chopping needs!

When’s the last time you had an ice cream sandwich from DQ?  It’s been too long.  Indulge.

For you or a gift.  Free People has this set of travel size perfumes, great for that next trip, or tuck the whole set in a stocking come Christmas…they smell great.

Dollar Tree has cute seasonal décor for kids’ rooms or playhouses…I mean really cute.

Here’s a whole sheet of stovetop potpourri ideas for the season.  Try them all, I’m going to!

Have you tried these pumpkin bagels?  I hope your store has them…so good.

Two books I listened to, worth considering.  I loved them both. Both were recommendations from friends so now I’m recommending to you! A Shepherd’s Look at Psalm 23, and The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek.

Lastly, I found this candle – supposed to smell like Luke’s Diner – and boy does it smell inviting.  This candle was at Marshalls.
