DATE NIGHT FUN ◽ MARRIAGE
Pumpkins are orange, and they’re everywhere this months, so why not incorporate this gorgeous color into time with him, out having a good time…or home having fun too?
Sunsets – You knew I’d start with this one, right? We have a restaurant near us that celebrates sunsets with ringing a bell and all the patrons clap their hands. It’s the best! But you could do this as a date night idea. Find the perfect spot and take an evening picnic, carry a bell, and get your hands ready. Enjoy your food (pumpkin shaped cookies for dessert, maybe?) and then ring the bell and clap loudly as the sun sets beyond the horizon.
Clementines – One of my favorite movie snacks to take to the theater is chocolate dipped clementine sections. Just melt dark chocolate and dip the sections (after you peeled and pulled them apart) and let them harden in the fridge. Take them with you to a movie date night in a little bowl and enjoy with that bucket of popcorn. I mean…it’s delicious. Don’t toss those peels! When you get home put this on the stove and simmer, and snuggle and talk about the show you just saw! (peel from 2-3 clementines, 2-3 cinnamon sticks, 1 T whole cloves, and if you have…a few fresh cranberries or a sprig of rosemary – cover the ingredients with water by an inch or two and simmer.) Be sure to turn off before bedtime!
Carrots – It’s a great veggie for October, incorporated into a stew or soup, don’t you think? And it’s that time of year to start savoring this kind of meal. Pick a date where you go shopping for all of the soup or stew ingredients together, then go home and make it. While the soup is simmering or cooking, consider watching The Ramen Girl (available on several platforms). Serve up your soup in pretty fall bowls (Dollar Tree has some awesome ones) and cloth napkins, and some crusty bread! Perfection…
Cheddar Cheese – This is orange and this is delightful, especially grated over nachos. Or on a sandwich. Did you know that turkey with slices of apple and thin slices of cheddar is especially good? Find a great sandwich place to have your date night and see if they can serve this sandwich for you. Or opt for a salad with shredded cheese. Or…any dish with the orange shreds! If you’d rather stay in, use orange cheeses for a big charcuterie board with all the things! You could play Diary of a Wimpy Kid Cheese Touch Game! A fun night for sure…
Clownfish – Is there an aquarium near you? Or do you have one of those huge sporting goods stores with an aquarium inside? Search for the orange clownfish and other orange things as you shop together and have a budget of say $50 together, buying and enjoying orange items. Maybe an orange smoothie or bowl, a festive Pez dispenser in orange, or an orange pumpkin candle for the house. Orange scented soap from a market would be great, as well as something orange to wear as a pop! Such a fun treasure hunt date for all things orange.
Basketballs – Surely there’s a basketball court near you, so head there to play a game of HORSE. Invite another couple. Pick a time that the court might be less used…like maybe a morning date. If you want to beforehand, buy other orange outdoor items to enjoy like a hacky sack, a Frisbee, or any other orange colored fun you might see at a place like Five Below or similar. Be sure to pack some orange juice and pumpkin bagels. Take some cream cheese and nuts, and you’re done. A morning date ready!
