DATE NIGHT FUN ◽ MARRIAGE

I think picnics are one of my favorite date ideas…ever.  It’s always cozy, romantic, and you can pack and decide on lots of different foods and activities.  So here are five for the month of September when (hopefully) the temps are cooling off a wee bit and calling you outside. Prepare beforehand by having cute paper plates and napkins (Marshall is the best) and maybe some cool foods from World Market.

Morning – Make it a picnic outside on your patio in the morning.  Get up and make your food in your robes and slippers, together.  Do this before the kids get up (if they’re older) or if you don’t have kids at home…this is perfect.  Decide on your menu the night before so you anticipate the flavors.  Set the table on the patio with cute plates and napkins and add some breakfast jazz music for background.  You can make scones…or purchase your goodies beforehand.  The key is to connect before your busy weekend ahead…

Afternoon – If the weather’s great, a lunchtime picnic is so cool.  What’s your favorite sandwich?  Make it gourmet and wrap them in parchment paper tied with twine.  Fold a napkin over and insert a cookie.  Grab a bowl of fruit and your favorite sparkling waters, and maybe some chips and a dip (how about pickle dip from Target?)  If you have a picnic blanket, take it.  If not, use a big sheet or whatever you have…or visit a park where you know there are picnic tables.  Take a frisbee, or crossword puzzle book, but…put all of that away in favor of swinging together on the playground.  You could also opt for a long walk after you’ve eaten.

Evening – The sun is setting earlier now, so plan this picnic before sunset but where you can end by watching the sun go down!  Invite another couple and decide where you’re going to have this date, picnic style.  Think lights and romance.  If your yard has lights and you have a setting, invite the couple over.  Perhaps, visit a small town and grab a spot in their city park, these are usually quaint and picturesque.  Do a little searching on line to find the right one!  Dress up just a little, and pack candles and this time slow dancing music.  For food, make it gourmet charcuterie with cheeses, olives, the freshest bread, and decadent dark chocolate.  You can get these at a market!  Dance after you eat, hold each other close and watch the sun set before you pack up for home.

Don’t those all sound perfect? I think so!
