HOMESTEADING * HOME

I used to be way into making sure our checkbook was balanced by Saturday night. I’d make we had enough in checking and move into savings if needed and make sure we had the tithe check ready for Sunday’s offering. However, with my husband’s current job situation, even just looking at the checkbook or online banking has been just depressing.

I decided to look back and see when was the last time I had even thought to balance the checkbook, and it was back in March! I had been so rigid with it for forever! Even back when we got married, I remember being in complete shock that my hubby had never balanced his checkbook. He just thought whatever the statements showed were to be true.

But what if they were wrong?

What if the bank made a mistake?

How do you add up your funds for tithing?

How do you make sure there’s enough in checking?

I am very type A and want to do everything by the rule book and the right way. I do not understand how anyone would not want to…

Our boys are funny.  One is like me and the other like Brian. Care free, it’ll all work out, is one son’s attitude, and the other is very orderly, always wanting to know the plan for the day. One has all his clothes hung in color order and all facing the same direction in his closet. The other one’s closet looks like a tornado hit it.

Is one right and the other wrong? I don’t know.

I feel like I’m being taught to maybe take a chill pill and let the Lord work it out. But sometimes I think that’s called lazy… I really don’t know the answers, but I’m trying to learn something in this mess that I feel like we’re in. There must be a reason for it and a lesson to be learned! I’m constantly trying to pray and ask God in all situations to guide me.

Depending on work and finances to work out, and bills to get paid, is truly an act of faith. I feel like we have prayed all the prayers, cried all the tears, searched for any type of work, taken on the most random jobs just to try and make ends meet.

There are times, though, we must just let God work. (Actually all the time we should let God work!) And I am trying to do that.

I’m not so good at “letting God,” but aren’t we all a work in progress?
