IN EACH ROOM ◽ HOME

Do you change your décor in your bedroom for the different seasons? I do it twice a year, just by changing a few things…not the whole bedding! If you have a neutral comforter and a few layers, you can easily change the look with some accessories. And shopping around for sales is the most fun of all…
I wanted to put away the summer hues of light green and I really had it in my head that I wanted to add brown and red to pull out some colors in a photo hung above my bed. So start with that. Pick a color scheme you want, and snap some photos of your bed as it is…so you have it when shopping.
I decided I wanted a new throw, some new throw pillows, and maybe some stems for a vase. That was it. And I envisioned what I wanted before I shopped. And I shopped. I looked on Amazon…but nothing. Finally, it was Target for the win…with one pillow from guess where? The Dollar Tree!
I saw a red leaf pillow at the Dollar Tree on that aisle where things are like $5 and $7. So I think this pillow was $5 – such a deal. That’s the piece I began with!
After much looking, I was walking through the home area of Target and spotted these plaid pillows on sale. I love plaid! And they had the colors I wanted…the red and brown…plus navy. Would that work? I wasn’t sure, so I pulled out my phone and looked at the photo of my room and the answer was yes! I placed two of these in my cart.
Next, I looked at the throws. I had seen a plush dark brown one in the Dollar Spot near the front of the store, and I kept thinking of it…while I looked in the home area. There it was…a pretty navy throw in a different texture from my two comforters…which was perfect. Adding layers of different textures is good! And of course, I went back to the Dollar Spot and grabbed the brown one too. It was just five bucks! And the navy one was on sale.
So happy…I was about to leave and saw some fall stems for a dollar each, so I grabbed a few for a vase on my bedside table.

After I went home, I played with where to place everything. I saw that a “contemporary” way to place a throw on a bed is to tuck it under where you fold back your comforter – so I tried that. The old way was at the foot of the bed. I placed the pillows and loved the look.
I took the brown throw and the other plaid pillow, and added a large tote for a pretty trio on the bench nearby. And then the stems were placed in the vase.
I’m done…for now…until I see another sale or another idea pops into my head!
