Airport Runway Stay

This airbnb advertised that it is right on a runway of a small airport, and we were intrigued. We had one night away with another couple and we booked the place and went! A very unique and fun experience in Salado, Texas.

First of all, the outside of the place could use a little sprucing up, but it is a tiny airport runway after all...and the inside of this place was picture perfect. It's located right off the highway and the side of the hangar is a big Texas flag, so you can't miss it. Our plan was to arrive and stay put for the 24 hours we were there. However, you could go into the lovely town of Salado and shop and eat, if you wish. However, we wanted to enjoy the hangar airbnb.

You walk up the stairs to a huge deck with table and chairs, grill and hot tub - all facing the runway - where you can watch the planes come and go. The airbnb is on the top floor and it's so roomy and perfect. A big dining table, a lovely TV area, and three really nice bedrooms. They had their bathroom and we had ours. And the whole place was decorated with aircraft decor!

Imagine our surprise when we opened a door from the kitchen area and there was a landing, where below were vintage planes that the owner is happy to share his knowledge about and let you look inside - Bob Mickey was delightfully smart and informative and like a living history book!

We made dinner, played games, and enjoyed the hot tub under the stars...while we visited.

We ate breakfast on the deck and learned about the planes the next morning. We enjoyed all that the kitchen and the airbnb had to offer. And if we needed anything, they were quick to respond!

I

'd say this was a unique stay for sure and one I'll never forget, and I'll share with everyone. The place will sleep six, easily, and it's a night away to remember, with airplanes besides. Who doesn't enjoy watching small airplanes come and go, and staying above a hangar?
