Ladies Who Lunch

She's 12 and she brought a friend, and we had the privilege of taking these two girls to lunch and a musical and shopping and for fries...on a day's trip to Waco...and it was fabulous.

Both of these girls love the theater, and when we saw that My Fair Lady was playing at the Waco Civic Theater, we grabbed tickets (at a fraction of the cost of good theater here in Austin!) And when I saw that Amazon had some cute My Fair Lady hats, and a cool purses too, I ordered them for the girls to have and take on our special day. It was fun to fill the purses with a few fun things as well...

We left mid morning and arrived in Waco just in time for our reservations at the 1928 Hotel. We had a bit of time and the girls loved the library downstairs, they bought some earrings in the hotel store, and oohed and ahhed at the pretty place where they were about to dine. And people oohed and ahhed at the girls, too - they looked so cute!

Lunch was delicious and the girls were on their best behavior and rather enjoyed cloth napkins on their laps, fancy butters and jams, and our seat right by the huge windows. The waitstaff was attentive and so sweet to the girls, and they also loved the bathroom - it was really pretty and looked like a mirror get-ready area backstage. So yes, they had a little impromptu dance in the bathroom!

We had about an hour so we stopped at Spice Village while the girls shopped and looked around, and then we headed to the theater. It was packed! And such a cute venue. We gathered a few snacks and sat down to enjoy the show - and it was an awesome afternoon. A rainstorm even happened just as Eliza was learning to say, "The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain!" And after the play, the girls both found musical socks to buy as a souvenir.

They didn't want to head home just yet, so they asked if we could shop a bit more and get some fries later, and of course we said, "Yes!" Target was the stop, and the girls had a blast gathering outfits to see "who wore it better" as they tried on things and bought an outfit each. Fun and laughter erupted in the dressing rooms!

Lastly, we stopped at Whataburger (their choice) for fries. Conversation with these two girls made us laugh all day. We asked questions and they asked questions of us. We told stories, we listened in as they sang at the top of their lungs on the way back. And we arrived back home super late, and they still wanted to stay a bit more...so they did!

Games in the garage, and a small charcuterie tray rounded out the evening before their parents came to take them home.

A day with the girls, all dressed up for lunch and a show. Well, there's nothing like it and nothing more fun...
